The Power of the Second Touch

One of the biggest tricks of the enemy is distractions. The enemy has already seen your potential and your future, he/she cannot do anything about it; the enemy can’t change it, nor can he/she move it. However, if the enemy can get us distracted in such a way that we cannot see it, we will not go after it. The message that God wanted me to share with you through this post is to STAY FOCUSED!

The Word teaches us that, “without vision my people perish.” So true, but I would like to say that without FOCUS your vision will never come to pass to save the people. While having vision could be a “life or death situation”, being focused can be a “do or die” situation. If you are not focused, you will die with a vision that will never be actualized. Norman Cousins who lived from June 24, 1915 to November 30, 1990, was an American political journalist, author, professor and world peace advocate. He is quoted as saying, “The tragedy of life is not death, but what we let die inside of us while we live.” God has birthed in you greatness, potential, opportunities that far succeeds any human expectation. The Spirit is a supernatural conduit for birthing. Whenever God’s spirit is involved, expect something greater to be birthed.

I have been wearing corrective lenses since I was in middle school. I could always see, I had vision, but what I was looking at was blurred. I knew something was before me, but I could not make out what it was. Thus, I had to visit an optometrist to have my eyes checked for corrective lenses. The optometrist had to bring my vision into focus. Many today wear glasses, contacts, or have had Laser Eye Surgery to correct impaired vision. Now they can see BETTER! People are spending millions and millions of dollars to improve their physical vision. They are spending money on technologically-advanced eye exams, better frames, lenses, contacts, and now, Laser Eye Surgery. But yet they don’t see their life any BETTER. They still see defeat, doom and destruction. God wants you to see BETTER, but you must allow the Spirit to bring your eyes into focus. God wants you to see what he sees. But the only way that is done is when and if you allow him to touch your eyes, not once but twice; for the first touch is for vision, but the second touch is for FOCUS.

When the children of Israel were led out of captivity towards the Promised Land, Moses sent spies into the land. They saw the promises with their own eyes; it was within their sight—their vision. Yet, when we read Numbers, chapter 13 their focus was tainted. Instead of focusing on what God promised, they focused on the foe. In verse 27 they reported, “The land flows with milk and honey…”; however, in verse 28, there is this conjunction, “BUT”. The spies began to focus more on the enemy than on the promise. And here lies the growing edge of some within the Kingdom of God, we have a vision, but we are focused on the enemy rather than the promises. We focus too much on our haters, and not enough on the Lover of our soul. If you want to shift your atmosphere, you must shift your focus. You cannot see things of the kingdom, the things that God has in store for you with earthly glasses. You must look through the lenses of God. I want to see what God sees in me and for me.

Recall when Jesus had to touch the blind man twice in Mark 8:22-26. Jesus had to touch him twice because the first time Jesus touched him, the man saw men walking as trees. The man had vision but not focus; therefore, Jesus touched the man again to bring his vision into focus. Sometimes we, like the blind man, need a second touch by Jesus in order to see from God’s perspective. When Christ is the focal point of your focus, the vision that he has given to you will come into proper perspective. Recall also the situation that Jesus encountered as recorded in Matthew 20:29-33: “As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him. And two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, “What do you want me to do for you?” They said to Him, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.”

How are your eyes? How is your focus? Is it dim, hazy, far-sighted or near-sighted? Do you have color blindness or tunnel vision? Do you want your eyes to be opened? The first touch from Jesus will give you vision, but sometimes we need a second touch to give us FOCUS. I pray that God will open our eyes and give us focus.

Your focus determines your reality. You are what you SEE. See yourself better. See yourself living better, eating better, loving better, enjoying life better, singing better, and working better.

When you focus on the negative you will begin to sink. We must keep our focus on our life’s author, and not the circumstances and the storms. Because the Author wrote your ending before he started with your beginning. You are going to win! So Beloved, don’t allow the cares, people and situations of this life to make you lose your focus. Stay focused on that what God has called you to do and who God has called you to be. Paul gives us great advice in Philippians 4:8. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things.”

Can You Hear Me Now?

If you are a cell phone user I’m pretty sure you’ve experienced a time when you were on a call and all of a sudden the call dropped or after hearing a few seconds of complete silence, you look at your phone and it says, “Call failure”.

Don’t you just hate that? It seems like it usually happens right at the time when something important is being communicated. You notice the bars and there is very little reception or none at all. It is likely that you have entered into a DEAD ZONE.

Wikipedia defines DEAD ZONES as “areas where cell phones cannot transmit to a nearby cell site, base station, or repeater. In these areas, the cell phone is said to be in a state of outage. Dead zones are usually areas where cell phone service is unavailable because the signal between the handset and cell site antennas is blocked, usually because of hilly terrain, excessive foliage, or physical distance.”

I want to take this time to encourage you to get out of your DEAD ZONE. Most of us, if not all of us, have bumped into at least one or more agonizing experiences. Perhaps you’ve encountered something that brought tears to your eyes, defeat to your mind, angst to your spirit and soreness to your soul. Maybe that ‘something’ made your life miserable! I call these examples spiritual dead zones.

A SPIRITUAL DEAD ZONE is an obstruction in a path or course which prevents contact with Jesus. It is something that is standing in the way of you achieving your God-given goals, plans, and purpose. Beloved, understand and know that you are going to experience times when it seems as if you can’t hear anything from God. You can become so distracted by the silence that you forget to keep going. How do I know? I’ve been there. There were times when I couldn’t hear anything from God. Beloved, let the truth be told, God is not silent. Could it be that maybe you are standing in a place that is blocking your signal?

Reflecting on Wikipedia’s definition, DEAD ZONES occur as a result of “hilly terrain, excessive foliage, or physical location”. Sometimes you can’t hear anything from God because you remain in the valley too long (hilly terrain). Yes, God will hear you in the valley but sometimes we are so focused on the hills that we don’t hear what God is saying. You have to come out of your valley.

David never said, “While I’m in the valley…” but he said, “…I walk through the valley… (Psalm 23:4)” It is not God’s plan for you to stay in the valley but to go through it. Get on the other side of through! I rebuke the prayer, “Lord, give me the strength to climb my mountain.” Stop asking for that. God did not say that He will give you strength to climb mountains! God said if you have the faith, you can speak to the mountain to be removed and it will be done. (Mark 11:23) Save your strength for something else but don’t use it to climb mountains. That’s wasted energy!

What do you do when you are in the DEAD ZONES? What do you do when the hurt continues to get deeper and deeper? What do you do when everybody offers you advice that never worked for them? In those DEAD ZONES when you don’t know which way to turn for fear of encountering another dead zone, you have two options: stay there or keep moving forward. The first one ought not to be an option. That defeats the purpose, don’t stay there. Move to a different place for better reception. God has a way out of every DEAD ZONE! I want you to know that there is a way to escape every hindrance, every interference and every obstacle. You must keep moving forward! Your dream does not have to die because you are in a DEAD ZONE.

The main purpose for Jesus coming into the world is so that you can have not only life but abundant life! Get yourself out of dead relationships, dead ideas, dead thoughts, dead visions, and dead situations. When God called Lazarus out of the grave, He not only called him out of a dead location but he told him to take off his dead clothes (John 11:44). What has you so bound that it’s choking the life out of you? Why are you not receptive to God’s voice? TAKE THEM OFF! Take off those dead things. Get out of your DEAD ZONE and watch your signal (your connection to God) improve!
