Can You Hear Me Now?

If you are a cell phone user I’m pretty sure you’ve experienced a time when you were on a call and all of a sudden the call dropped or after hearing a few seconds of complete silence, you look at your phone and it says, “Call failure”.

Don’t you just hate that? It seems like it usually happens right at the time when something important is being communicated. You notice the bars and there is very little reception or none at all. It is likely that you have entered into a DEAD ZONE.

Wikipedia defines DEAD ZONES as “areas where cell phones cannot transmit to a nearby cell site, base station, or repeater. In these areas, the cell phone is said to be in a state of outage. Dead zones are usually areas where cell phone service is unavailable because the signal between the handset and cell site antennas is blocked, usually because of hilly terrain, excessive foliage, or physical distance.”

I want to take this time to encourage you to get out of your DEAD ZONE. Most of us, if not all of us, have bumped into at least one or more agonizing experiences. Perhaps you’ve encountered something that brought tears to your eyes, defeat to your mind, angst to your spirit and soreness to your soul. Maybe that ‘something’ made your life miserable! I call these examples spiritual dead zones.

A SPIRITUAL DEAD ZONE is an obstruction in a path or course which prevents contact with Jesus. It is something that is standing in the way of you achieving your God-given goals, plans, and purpose. Beloved, understand and know that you are going to experience times when it seems as if you can’t hear anything from God. You can become so distracted by the silence that you forget to keep going. How do I know? I’ve been there. There were times when I couldn’t hear anything from God. Beloved, let the truth be told, God is not silent. Could it be that maybe you are standing in a place that is blocking your signal?

Reflecting on Wikipedia’s definition, DEAD ZONES occur as a result of “hilly terrain, excessive foliage, or physical location”. Sometimes you can’t hear anything from God because you remain in the valley too long (hilly terrain). Yes, God will hear you in the valley but sometimes we are so focused on the hills that we don’t hear what God is saying. You have to come out of your valley.

David never said, “While I’m in the valley…” but he said, “…I walk through the valley… (Psalm 23:4)” It is not God’s plan for you to stay in the valley but to go through it. Get on the other side of through! I rebuke the prayer, “Lord, give me the strength to climb my mountain.” Stop asking for that. God did not say that He will give you strength to climb mountains! God said if you have the faith, you can speak to the mountain to be removed and it will be done. (Mark 11:23) Save your strength for something else but don’t use it to climb mountains. That’s wasted energy!

What do you do when you are in the DEAD ZONES? What do you do when the hurt continues to get deeper and deeper? What do you do when everybody offers you advice that never worked for them? In those DEAD ZONES when you don’t know which way to turn for fear of encountering another dead zone, you have two options: stay there or keep moving forward. The first one ought not to be an option. That defeats the purpose, don’t stay there. Move to a different place for better reception. God has a way out of every DEAD ZONE! I want you to know that there is a way to escape every hindrance, every interference and every obstacle. You must keep moving forward! Your dream does not have to die because you are in a DEAD ZONE.

The main purpose for Jesus coming into the world is so that you can have not only life but abundant life! Get yourself out of dead relationships, dead ideas, dead thoughts, dead visions, and dead situations. When God called Lazarus out of the grave, He not only called him out of a dead location but he told him to take off his dead clothes (John 11:44). What has you so bound that it’s choking the life out of you? Why are you not receptive to God’s voice? TAKE THEM OFF! Take off those dead things. Get out of your DEAD ZONE and watch your signal (your connection to God) improve!

  1. Love the analogy..it’s so very true there are times when we will not hear God’s voice and we wonder does He hear us? I can say for sure He hears us all the time…What I have found is that when there are those moments I don’t hear Him I better draw closer to Him than I did the moment before….AMEN

  2. Yah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was so good all I could say was UHM! What a vivid picture of the dead zone and how to get out! About to repost! Love it!
